DUI/OVI In Dublin, Ohio
The Dominy Law Firm represents clients for Dublin, Ohio DUI / OVI.  Whether you are a resident of Dublin or you have a DUI/OVI case in Dublin, you probably have questions about your situation.  People charged with DUI/OVI want to know about the court process, the potential consequences, and the next steps to take.  This website will help answer your questions.  Another way to get your questions answered is to read the book ‘Ohio DUI / OVI Guide’.  That book is sold in online bookstores, but you can download the e-book for free here.

The City of Dublin, Ohio occupies three counties.  That means DUI/OVI cases are held in one of four courts.  Cases may be held in either the Dublin Mayor’s Court, the Franklin County Municipal Court, the Delaware County Municipal Court, or the Marysville Municipal Court.  The court in which the case is filed depends on the location where the alleged offense occurred, as well as what law enforcement agency made the arrest.  The law enforcement agencies with a presence in the Dublin area include the Dublin Police Department, the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office, the Delaware County Sheriff’s Office, and the Union County Sheriff’s Office.

The Court Process For Dublin DUI/OVI Cases
Wherever the case is filed, the initial hearing occurs quickly:  within a few business days of the incident.  If the case is held in the Dublin Mayor’s Court, the first appearance in court is a hearing regarding the Administrative License Suspension (A.L.S.).  If the case is held in one of the municipal courts, the first hearing is an arraignment, and the A.L.S. is addressed in the context of the arraignment.  At an arraignment, there is ordinarily no plea bargaining.  Instead, you are given the options of pleading guilty, pleading no contest, or pleading not guilty.

Next Steps For A DUI / OVI In Dublin
As you will have to decide what plea to enter within a few days of the arrest, it is best to give thought to your options before going to court.  The first step is to educate yourself about what the prosecution must prove, the possible sentence, the possible defenses, and defense attorneys.  This website, and the downloadable e-book, are good sources of information for educating yourself on DUI/OVI issues.

The next step is to decide if you’re going to plead guilty to the DUI/OVI or contest the charge.  The answer is not the same for everyone.  Some people decide they can accept the consequences and can live with a DUI/OVI conviction.  Other people conclude it is important to avoid a DUI/OVI conviction, as that conviction is a permanent record which cannot be sealed/expunged.

After you make the decision about the plea you will enter, you’ll want to decide if you are going to represent yourself or hire an attorney. If you decide to hire an attorney, you’ll want to find an attorney with expertise and experience in DUI/OVI defense.
