Dominy Law Firm. The Dominy Law Firm is focused on providing ‘personal service when results matter’ for select clients charged with criminal offenses, serious vehicular crimes, traffic tickets, and DUI / OVI in Columbus, Ohio and the central Ohio area.
Why We’re Different. There are three characteristics which may make the Dominy Law Firm stand out among the criminal defense lawyers in the Columbus, Ohio area:
- Narrowly focused practice
- Experience and expertise
- Limited number of clients
The product of these three factors: we obtain favorable results for our clients while providing personal service which relieves our clients’ anxiety.
Narrowly Focused Practice. We are a boutique firm with a very focused practice. In the book Good To Great, author Jim Collins describes how companies transition from being good to being great. One common trait observed by Collins is what he calls the “hedgehog principle”. The hedgehog is very good at doing one thing: rolling up in a ball so its quills deter predators from eating it.
The Dominy Law Firm has adopted the hedgehog principle. We work on being very good at doing one thing: criminal defense. There are many practice areas in the field of law, and we have chosen to be a niche firm with a concentration in the area of criminal law. Within the area of criminal defense, there are various sub-areas, such as felony crimes, misdemeanor crimes, and vehicular crimes. We handle each of those areas, with an emphasis on Ohio DUI / OVI offenses and other vehicular crimes.
Experience And Expertise. Founding attorney Shawn Dominy has practiced DUI / OVI defense and criminal defense since 1997. The attorneys at the Dominy Law Firm have undergone specialized training specific to the areas of criminal defense, DUI / OVI defense and vehicular crime defense. That training continues, as we are constantly seeking to improve our skills. We have represented clients in literally thousands of cases, including dozens of suppression hearings and jury trials, in Columbus, Ohio and courts throughout central Ohio.
Limited Number Of Clients. The Dominy Law Firm limits the number of clients we represent. We have a good feel for what we consider an acceptable caseload: one which will allow us to provide outstanding service to our clients and also maintain life balance. That means we cannot represent every prospective client who contacts the firm. If we do not accept your case, we may be able to help you arrange for another firm to represent you.
Service And Results. By limiting the types of cases we accept, and by limiting the number of cases we accept, the Dominy Law Firm is able to develop expertise in a narrow area of law and work every case very thoroughly. As a result, we are able to achieve favorable outcomes for our clients and give each client the attention they deserve.
When there is a development in your case, we let you know about it. Every document the firm generates or receives, you get a copy of it. When you have questions, we answer them. Emails and phone calls are returned promptly. We want you to be fully informed, so you understand everything about your case. Our lawyers are down-to-earth and speak in plain English (not lawyer jargon), but they are also professional and discreet. See what clients say.
Fees Which Are High But Reasonable. If you are looking for an inexpensive lawyer to herd you through the court process for a quick guilty plea, the Dominy Law Firm is not for you. Our fees are on the high-end of the fee spectrum based on our niche practice, experience and limited caseload. Our firm charges flat fees, so you’ll know from the beginning of the case exactly how much the representation will cost. The firm offers a free initial case evaluation, but a retainer is required before representation begins. Payment is typically made by debit/credit card through online invoicing.
Modern Office Operation. The Dominy Law Firm is essentially paperless and uses comprehensive office management software to ensure the practice is operated efficiently and effectively. We communicate with clients regularly to ensure clients are informed, educated and empowered. Communication is primarily by email, except when an office meeting or phone conference makes more sense.
Convenient Office Location. Our office is conveniently located on the north end of Columbus at the intersection of Interstate 270 and Route 315. It’s easy to find, and parking is simple because it has its own parking lot with guest spaces near the front door. Although our office has a suburban location, our attorneys are in court on a regular basis and therefore have good working relationships with prosecuting attorneys, judges, court staff, and other lawyers.
