I am Shawn R. Dominy, Attorney at Law. My office is in Columbus, Ohio, and I help clients charged with DUI / OVI and criminal offenses in Columbus and the central Ohio area. My practice is limited to criminal defense and DUI / OVI defense in Columbus, Ohio and central Ohio. This page of the website is designed to give you more background information about me.

Formal Education

I grew up in central Ohio and attended Olentangy Schools. I earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1993 from The Ohio State University, where I studied criminology and political science. I graduated from The O.S.U. Moritz College of Law in 1997 and scored in the top five percent on Ohio's bar exam.

Continuing Education

I regularly participate in national continuing education seminars on the topics of DUI / OVI and criminal law, and I frequently speak at seminars where I teach other Ohio attorneys about DUI / OVI. I have undergone training in field sobriety testing (the same training law enforcement officers undergo from the National Highway Traffic and Safety Administration), breath alcohol testing (for the Datamaster and Intoxilyzer breath-testing machines), and blood/urine testing (gas chromatograph operation). In addition, I twice completed the course at Harvard Law School from the National College for DUI Defense. Experience

During law school, I worked for a Columbus attorney with a practice focused on criminal defense and DUI / OVI defense. After graduating from law school in 1997, I formed a partnership with that attorney. In 1999, I established my own firm, focusing on DUI / OVI defense and criminal defense. I have represented thousands of clients charged with DUI / OVI and criminal offenses. My cases have ranged from speeding tickets to murder indictments, and everything in between. I am in court on a regular basis.  I have taken many cases through motion hearings and trial in Columbus and in courts throughout central Ohio. I have also represented clients in Ohio appellate Courts and the federal Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals.

Professional Organizations

I am a member of the National College for DUI Defense, the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, the Ohio Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers (DUI Committee), and the Central Ohio Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers. I am also a member of the Ohio Bar Association, the Columbus Bar Association (former chair of the Criminal Law Committee), and the Delaware Bar Association.

Areas of law

My practice is focused on representing clients charged with DUI / OVI and criminal offenses. I do not practice other areas of law and handle an occasional DUI / OVI or criminal case:  this is all I do, and I enjoy my work.

Geographic areas

I practice in courts throughout central Ohio, including the following counties: Franklin County (Columbus), Delaware County, Fairfield County, Knox County, Madison County, Marion County, Morrow County, Pickaway County, and Union County.  I practice in Municipal Courts, Common Pleas Courts, and Mayor's Courts.
