OVI / DUI

Experienced Ohio DUI Defense Attorney

Known by multiple acronyms including DWI, DUI, OMVI, and OVI, a drunk driving charge can have serious consequences. A conviction can affect your insurance rates and add points to your driving record. The results can be as serious as a driver’s license suspension and possible jail time. If you have been charged with driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, contact me to start your defense immediately.

Trained in Field Sobriety Testing and Breath Testing

I am attorney Shawn Dominy. Since 1997, my criminal defense law office has been providing intelligent, effective defense for college students and other individuals in the Columbus area. I am in court every day to protect the rights of people charged with drunk driving offenses.

Criminal defense law, including drunk driving and traffic ticket defense, is all I have ever practiced. I am an experienced DUI defense lawyer who knows how to investigate every aspect of your charge. I thoroughly investigate your charges to determine whether your rights were violated in any way, before, during, or after the arrest. I have gone through the same National Highway Traffic Safety Administration field sobriety training that police officers attend. I know how the tests should be administered at the scene of a drunk driving accident or arrest, and I know how to challenge the results.  I have also undergone training in the science of alcohol testing and the operation of breath-testing machines.

DUI Arrest Defense Includes:

Alternatives to harsh DUI penalties

There are several opportunities during your legal process in which your charge could be reduced or eliminated. Did the officer have justification for stopping your vehicle and arresting you? Were the field sobriety tests, or breath/blood/urine tests, administered in compliance with regulations. I work toward helping you receive treatment in an alcohol rehabilitation program instead of jail time. Also, if you have had your driver’s license suspended due to your DUI charge, you could be eligible for a temporary, provisional driver’s license that grants limited driving privileges to work or school.

I use all of my experience, including knowing when it is necessary to call on a team of professional investigators, accident reconstruction specialists, and forensic experts to analyze evidence for your defense. No matter what charges you face, I am a seasoned trial attorney who knows how to present the strongest case possible, in court, or in plea bargaining negotiations.
