I am Shawn R. Dominy, Attorney at Law. I am a native of central Ohio, and my office in Columbus, Ohio (formerly located in Powell, Ohio) serves the greater Columbus area and all of Central Ohio. My practice is limited to DUI/OVI defense and criminal defense. This page of the website is designed to give you more background information about me.

Education

I grew up in central Ohio and attended Olentangy Schools. I earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from The Ohio State University, where I studied criminology and political science. I graduated from The O.S.U. College of Law and scored in the top five percent on Ohio's bar exam.

Experience

During law school, I worked for a Columbus criminal defense attorney. After graduating from law school in 1997, I formed a partnership with that attorney. In 1999, I established my own law office, focusing on criminal defense and DUI/OVI defense. I have represented thousands of clients charged with DUI/OVI and criminal offenses. My cases have ranged from speeding tickets to murder indictments, and everything in between. I am in court on a daily basis, and I have taken many cases to trial in Columbus and in courts throughout central Ohio. I have also represented clients in Ohio appellate Courts and the federal Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals.

Training

I regularly participate in national continuing education seminars on the topics of DUI/OVI and criminal law, and I frequently speak at seminars as well. I have also undergone training in field sobriety testing (the same training law enforcement officers undergo from the National Highway Traffic and Safety Administration) and alcohol testing (from the manufacturer of the Datamaster breath-testing machine). In addition, I completed a course from the National College for DUI Defense at Harvard Law School. I continuously seek additional training to improve my effectiveness as a lawyer.

Professional Organizations

I am a member of the National College for DUI Defense, the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, the Ohio Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers (DUI Committee), and the Central Ohio Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers. I am also a member of the Ohio Bar Association, the Columbus Bar Association (former chair of the Criminal Law Committee), and the Delaware Bar Association.

Areas of law

My practice is focused on representing clients charged with criminal offenses and DUI/OVI offenses. I do not practice other areas of law and handle an occasional DUI or criminal case; this is all I do, and I enjoy my work.

I practice in courts throughout central Ohio, including the following counties:  Franklin County (Columbus), Delaware County, Fairfield County, Knox County, Madison County, Marion County, Morrow County, Pickaway County, and Union County.
